Dietrich Butte is a large butte located east of Shoshone, Idaho and north of Dietrich, Idaho. The recent construction of two electronics towers on the summit included some road work. The remains of the butte’s crater are found on the north side of the summit. On March 28, 2017, the crater had a shallow lake. USGS Dietrich Butte

Access

Drive about 0.5 miles east of Dietrich on ID-24 to [signed] 750E Road. Drive north up 750E Road for 3.4 miles to an unsigned junction with E110N Road. Drive east up E110N Road for 2.1 miles to an unsigned junction at the crater just below the summit. Park here or continue up 0.2 miles farther to the summit.

North Ridge, Class 1

The Climb

From the unsigned junction, hike south up the service road to the summit. You can also drive on a 2-track road into the crater and scramble up the Class 2 north face for a more challenging endeavor.
