SOLDIER MOUNTAINS
The Soldier Mountains are located north of Fairfield, Idaho, at the southern edge of the central Idaho mountains. They cover a roughly triangular piece of real estate 30 miles wide and 15 miles from north to south. The range is bordered by the Camas Prairie in the south, the South Fork Boise River in the north and west and the Smoky Mountains in the east.
Physically, the range is nearly indistinguishable from the Smoky Mountains. Soldier Mountain topography is characterized by long winding drainages and high grass-covered ridges. While there are only two dominant summits: 10,095-foot Smoky Dome and 9,694-foot Iron Mountain, both summits are exceptional scrambling goals.
