Peak 6082 is a ranked summit in the extreme southern section of the Lemhi Range. It is located along a frontage road in the southern foothills of the Lemhi Range. This area is a mix of INL land, private land, and public land. Be very careful where you drive and where you hike here. USGS Richard Butte

Access

Same as for Peak 7415. From the signed junction of Deer Canyon Road/BLM-534 and the South Foothills Road/BLM-789, continue south on the South Foothills Road. Reset your odometer at this junction. Drive south on the South Foothills Road. At 0.8 miles, reach a signed junction with Cedar Canyon Road/BLM-531 (right). At 3.4 miles, reach an unsigned road junction in Kyle Canyon at the base of the northwest side of Peak 6082. Park here [5,522 feet; 43°54’27.8”N, 112°51’41.4”W].

Map Errors

There are numerous road errors on the USGS topo map for this area. Don’t trust it.

West Shoulder/North Ridge, Class 2

The Climb

From the road junction (shown on maps), walk briefly southwest up BLM-789. Leave the road and angle left/south onto a steep, open shoulder of short grass/scrub and gravel. Scramble up this somewhat loose mess (especially higher up) to reach the open north ridge just south of the saddle that separates the [lower] north summit from the true/south summit. Follow the ridge crest south in open scrub and some rock to reach the rocky summit area.

I rebuilt the torn-down summit cairn atop the highest boulder. The north ridge of Peak 6082 and the rocky summit hump are a magnificent sight to behold as you drive in from the north on the South Foothills Road. Were it not for nearby INL land, Peak 6082 would be a short drive from ID-28 to the east or ID-33 to the south.
