Gedney Butte is located along ID-51 south of Bruneau in southern Idaho. Though only offering 55 feet of prominence, it is an obvious and prominent hump as you drive along ID-51. USGS Grasmere

Access

Gedney Butte is located along ID-55 at virtual MM39.5. The trick is finding a safe place to park along this narrow highway. There is no parking pullout on the ridge crest where the highway is closest to the summit of Gedney Butte. Either park on a side road about 0.2 miles north of the ridge crest (as I did) or park at the gravel pit on the south side of the butte (a better place).

The Climb

From the side road north of the ridge crest, walk 0.2 miles south on ID-51 to the road crest and the west ridge. Leave the highway and bushwhack east through sagebrush to reach the summit boulders/brush. The gravel pit offers a shorter, less-brushy climb to the summit area and that is the route I recommend.
