Grouse Peak is the namesake peak in this area. But, interestingly, it is not the highest point on this high ridge in the northern Pahsimeroi Mountains. That honor goes to Peak 8522 just to its south. It is most easily climbed from a nearby 2-track ridge road (FSR-111). USGS Grouse Peak

Access

Same as for Peak 8522. Hike (or drive) north on FSR-111 from Peak 8522 all the way to the crest in the road as it skirts the east side of Grouse Peak. There is a cattle gate and a road junction here.

The Climb

From the road junction, follow an old 2-track road southwest then west to the summit. The concrete footers for the old lookout are still there. The USGS “Grouse 2” benchmark is also there.
