Lemhi Ridge is nowhere near the Lemhi Range. It is a ridge on the Snake River Plain and is located northwest of Blackfoot, Idaho. Lemhi Ridge is easily climbed from a maintained county road (Lemhi Road) to its west. While on private land, there is no signage or fencing to prohibit entry. USGS Baldy Knoll

Access

From US-26 about four miles northwest of I-15 at Blackfoot, turn right/north onto [signed] Lemhi Road/700W and reset your odometer. Drive 4.3 miles up Lemhi Road to just past Lemhi Pass. Park in a pullout alongside the road [4,540 feet; 43°17’32.7”N, 112°25’28.3”W].

Southwest Ridge, Class 2

The Climb

From the pullout, walk briefly south on Lemhi Road to get past an ugly, deep gully. Leave the road and bushwhack southeast up onto the southwest ridge through tall, somewhat thick sagebrush. Once on the ridge, follow it left/northeast on embedded rock (with lots of sagebrush mixed in). Navigate carefully across a nasty, deep gap/crevasse in the ridge rock a few times to reach the summit area. The high point is at the northeast end of the ridge and has a piece of rebar in a small summit cairn.
