Monument Butte is a minor hump that is located due south of Carey and east of US-93/US-26. It is easily reached by decent BLM roads that lead to the Monument Butte Well to its northeast. USGS Pagari Well

Access

From the junction of US-20 and US-93/US-26 at the south end of Carey, drive south on US93/US-26 for 9.5 miles to a turnoff signed for “Preacher Bridge Access-BLM” on the left/east side of the highway. Leave the highway and reset your odometer at this junction. Drive east on a decent 2-track road. At 0.3 miles, reach an unsigned “T” junction with a paved “Old Highway.” Go straight/east across it. At 0.7 miles, go right/south on a good 2-track road. At 4.6 miles, bear right/southeast on a good 2-track road. At 5.5 miles, reach the water tank (Monument Butte Well) fenced area and park [4,688 feet; 43°09’32.7”N, 113°56’39.0”W]. No doubt you will have lots of bovine company here.

The Climb

From the pullout/parking area, walk south along a fence row to pass the water tank area. Find another fence row that heads right-ish/southwest (shown on maps). Follow this fence row on its right/northwest side on an on-and-off cattle trail in easy grass and gapped scrub with a rocky base at times. Leave the fence row as it crests and head right/northwest to the 8-foot tall summit cairn and the high point on the south rim of the crater. Contrary to LOJ, the high point is on the south rim of the crater, not the north rim. There is a mini-benchmark sticking out of the ground on the south summit.
