Access

From downtown Prairie at a signed junction of Prairie Road and Smith Creek Road, drive east on Prairie Road. At 0.8 miles, reach a signed 4-way junction. Turn south onto an unsigned, smooth county road (soon to be signed as Meadow Creek Road) and drive 1.3 miles to a signed road junction. Reset your odometer here. Head east on Meadow Creek Road/FSR-128.

At 5.5 miles, reach a signed junction with rugged FSR-137/House Mountain Road (right). At 5.7 miles, reach an unsigned junction with a narrow, rugged 2-track road (FSR-169 on maps) heading left/north. Reset your odometer here and head north up the 2-track side road. At 1.7 miles, reach a signed junction with FSR-118 (right). Go straight here. At 2.1 miles, park along the road in a decent pullout [6,456 feet; 43°29’41.5”N, 115°28’05.6”W].

Map Errors

The USGS topo map mis-labels Medow Creek Road as House Mountain Road. The USGS topo map misplaces FSR-169 (and it is not a straight line northeast) and shows several roads and road sections that do not exist. The NF maps is more accurate but shows FSR-169 as a decent road initially, which it is NOT.

The Climb

From the roadside pullout, bushwhack southwest then west up through thick scrub and some willows to reach the thick, willow-covered summit. A few ground boulders (amidst the willows) appear to be the high point. Find gaps in the scrub/brush as much as possible to make the bushwhack feasible. The summit area is particularly thick with willows and has no gaps or lanes.
