Elevation: 6,301 ft
This peak is not in the book.
This Bald Mountain is an outlier of the the Owyhee Mountains’ Silver City Range. It is located just northeast of Silver City on the east side of the crest. The peak is tree covered and so the overused “Bald” name is a bit of a non sequitur. Nevertheless, this peak has a nice view of the rugged Silver City Range.
Bald Mountain is easily accessed from the Murphy/Silver City Road [(A)(2) on page 346]. Follow this long, twisting, up-and-down road west from ID-78 to the saddle at 5,820 feet just southwest of the summit. There is a large parking spot at this point.
Southwest Ridge Route, Class 1+
From the parking lot, a 4WD road leads to the summit. Follow this steep road to the summit in 0.7 miles with 455 feet of elevation gain. Just before the summit leave the road and hike the last few feet to the high point.
