Bear Valley Mountain

Elevation: 8,291 ft
Prominence: 1,231

Bear Valley Mountain summit contains one of the scariest fire lookouts I have visited.

This peak is not in the book.

Bear Valley Mountain is located in the southern reaches of the Central Salmon River Mountains. It rise abruptly above Bruce Meadows and offers a great view of the surrounding area, much of which has burned in the past 20 years. The lookout is no longer used and looks like it could topple at any time, but the road to the top is in good shape for mountain biking, which is my preferred way to climb this peak. The summit is roughly 3.5 miles from the Deer Flat Guard Station with a 1,900 foot elevation gain. USGS Bear Valley Mountain
