Cathedral Rocks is located due east of Danskin Peak and west of the South Fork Boise River. This formation contains several imposing towers, the highest of which has over 280 feet of prominence. Despite its impressive dimensions, it has been ignored by climbers and peakbaggers. The only ascent recorded was by Erik Pohlmann in 2017. USGS Cathedral Rocks
Access
To access the start of the Cathedral Rocks Route, use the directions on the Danskin Peak page to reach the saddle between Danskin Peak and Peak 6244/Trail Peak. From the saddle, follow the old abandoned road shown on the USGS quad southeast. Erik reports: “This route contains a nice worn single track. It will be obvious when you need to leave the road and head east cross-country to your objective. Look for Point 5350 on the quadrangle.” Cross over Point 5350 and follow the ridge east to the summit block.
Southeast Side, Class 4
Erik gained the Cathedral Rocks summit by scrambling up the Southeast Side of the formation. For the rating, Erik reports “I’m guessing a short Class 3 or Class 4; it’s easier than it looks.”
