Peak 6794 is located west of Deadman Gulch. It is the high point on Red Devil Mountain, though it doesn’t carry the name (a lower 6,603-foot point carries the name). Peak 6794 is overshadowed by its neighbor to the south, Hangman Peak (6,852 feet). This area is a mix of private and public land, so be careful. Public access is allowed through the private land in Deadman Gulch. The off-trail terrain is almost entirely on BLM land. The summit is on private land but there is no signage or fencing to prohibit entry. USGS Hailey

Access

From its genesis at East Ridge Drive in Hailey, drive northeast up [signed] Quigley Road. At 2.1 miles, park in a pullout alongside Quigley Pond (5,560 feet). This pullout is about 30 yards east of the trail sign for the Deadman Gulch Trail.

Southeast Shoulder, Class 2

The Climb

From the trailhead, hike north up Deadman Gulch on a narrow footpath through thick sagebrush (ignore the well-beaten trail that heads left/southwest from the trailhead; that trail follows Quigley Road down to the large trailhead parking lot about 1.8 miles down the road). About a mile up the trail, the trail turns right/east. This bend is at the base of the [obvious] southeast shoulder of Peak 6794. Leave the trail and bushwhack through sagebrush (thick at times) to gain the crest of the shoulder.

The shoulder is just right/north of a narrow gully that appears to meander upward (not straight). Grind your way west then northwest up the shoulder to a ridge point then a 25-foot drop to minor saddle. Angle diagonally right/northwest to skirt Point 6683 and reach a final saddle at 6,580 feet. Continue northwest then north to reach the sagebrush-covered summit. The summit of Peak 6794 has a small cairn amidst the sagebrush.
