Peak 7489 is one of three ranked summits at the northernmost end of the Caribou Range. It is the most remote of the three peaks and must be reached by a long ridge traverse requiring quite a bit of tedious bushwhacking. Peak 7489 towers over the Garden Creek drainage to its south. West Ridge, Class 2

Access

Same as for the west ridge of Peak 7541. This route is part of a ridge traverse from Peak 7541.

The Climb

From the connecting saddle with Peak 7541 (or the dry gully just below it), climb northeast straight uphill through thick sagebrush (initially) then much easier scrub to reach the open, horseshoe-shaped ridge of Peak 7489. Follow the easy ridge crest east then southeast then bend sharply left/northeast to reach the cairned summit. The south summit is a narrow ridge crest and is the high point. The north summit is visibly lower.
