Peak 7500 sits atop Horse Ridge on the east side of Chandler Canyon in the southern section of the Beaverhead Mountains. It is most easily reached by rugged, rutted Chandler Canyon Road. USGS Shamrock Gulch

Access

From the junction of ID-22/ID-28, drive east on ID-22 for 10.4 miles to [unsigned] Chandler Canyon Road/FSR-202. There is a State gravel pit located across the highway here (signed “State Property/Keep Off”). Turn left/north onto Chandler Canyon Road. At 3.5 miles, go through a cattle gate. At 6.3 miles, reach an unsigned road junction The road to the left is Rocky Canyon Road. Continue straight here on Chandler Canyon Road. At 6.7 miles, cross a cattle gate and enter BLM land. About 100 feet past the cattle gate, there is another unsigned road junction.

The road to the left is Gallagher Canyon Road/FSR-201. It is signed about 100 feet up from Chandler Canyon Road. Continue straight on Chandler Canyon Road, which gets rougher and more rutted from here. You may wish to park at this junction if road conditions are too rugged. You will probably need an ATV or MC past this point. Drive (or hike) up Chandler Canyon Road for another 2-1/2 miles to a junction with Blue Canyon Road/FSR-203. Park here (6,150 feet).

South Ridge, Class 2-3

The Climb

From the road junction, scramble northeast to reach the crest of the south ridge. Follow the ridge left/north to reach the flat summit area. Skirt two ridge points to reach the high point area.
