Peak 9338 sits above, and southeast of, Buster Lake. The easiest ascent route is from Buster Lake and the northwest face and west ridge. Peak 9338 has very rugged north and east aspects. USGS Bayhorse Lake

Access

From the junction of US-93 and Main Street in Challis, drive west on Main Street (which becomes Garden Creek Road) for 4.9 miles to a signed junction with the Custer Motorway/FSR-070. Bear left here to stay on Garden Creek Road/FSR-069. At 6.6 miles, enter the Challis National Forest. At 6.9 miles, reach a signed junction with the Keystone Mountain Road/FSR-052. Park here (6,730 feet).

The Approach, Class 1

From the road junction, hike (or ride an ATV/MC) up Garden Creek Road to Buster Lake.

Northwest Face/West Ridge, Class 2-3

The Climb

From Buster Lake (8,544 feet), head south along the east shore of the lake to reach the base of the northwest face. Bushwhack southeast up through the pine forest to reach the west ridge at or just east of a saddle at 8,820 feet. Scramble east up the ridge to rocky, open terrain high up. Continue up the rocky terrain to the summit.
