Peak 9648 is an overlooked summit that is located at the headwaters of Geertson Creek, just above Geertson Lake to its north. The only reasonable access is via Geertson Creek Road, which crosses private property. You must obtain permission from the landowner to undertake this climb. USGS Bohannon Spring

Northwest Shoulder, Class 2-3

The Climb

Hike north then northeast up Geertson Creek Road (which becomes a trail) to about 7,800 feet. Leave the trail here and cross to the east side of Geertson Creek. Bushwhack southeast up through a patch of forest to reach the crest of the northwest shoulder. Scramble southeast up the ridge crest. Skirt the right/south side of a ridge cliff at 8,300 feet and regain the ridge crest at 8,400 feet. Continue climbing southeast up the shoulder to reach the summit ridge at about 9,500 feet. Head left/east-northeast up the open ridge crest for a short distance to the summit.
