Pilot Knob is located 14.0 miles northwest of Elk City, Idaho. This peak has a manned fire lookout on its summit. The lookout has been staffed since 1939. USGS Pilot Knob

Access and Route, Class 1

From ID-14, turn onto the [signed] Newsome Creek Road/FS-1858 near Milepost 37. The signed turn states it is 19.0 miles to the lookout. At 6.7 miles, turn left onto the [signed] Elk City Wagon Road. At 12.7 miles, turn left onto FS-464. At 13.7 miles, stay left on FS-464 and follow it to the summit. A 4WD is required.
