Roberts Mountain

Elevation: 6,681 ft
Prominence: 2,061

This p2k peak is not in the book.

Roberts Mountain is located northeast of Lake Pend Oreille at the northern most extension of the Bitterroot Mountains. Its prominence is its claim to fame. A lookout stood on the summit from 1928 to 1958.

Access this peak from Troy, Montana and US-2. From Troy follow Callahan Creek Road, FS-427 west for 12.0 miles to the trailhead for FST-407 which is at 3,480 feet. The Forest Service states: “Trailhead is on the right and can be hard to find – look for tread on upslope of road.”

FST-407, Class 1+

This trail ascends the peak’s south ridge climbing over Point 6647 along the way.  The most recent information I have found (2014) on this trail probably justifies calling an ascent up this trail as Class 2. Be prepared for crosscountry type of travel. Round trip will involve over 8.0 miles and 3,200 feet of elevation gain.
