Threemile Knoll is located on the west side of ID-34 just over three miles north of Soda Springs. It is most easily climbed via its south ridge from a roadside pullout along the highway just north of a large phosphate mining facility. USGS Soda Springs

Access

From the junction of US-30 and ID-34 in downtown Soda Springs, drive north on ID-34 for 3.3 miles to a roadside pullout on the left/west side of the highway. Park here (6,015 feet;42⁰41’48”N, 111⁰34’34”W). This nice gravel pullout is located 0.3 miles north of Trail Canyon Road and is just north of a large, active phosphate mining operation. This climb is entirely on unposted, unfenced private land. I suspect that most of this land is owned by the City or County.

South Ridge, Class 2

The Climb

From the parking spot, bushwhack across a short patch of irrigated land then drop into a brushy, dry gully of tall, thick brush. Cross this small gully to reach the toe of the south ridge. Stay to the right of the posted, fenced land that surrounds the phosphate mining operation. Climb up the south ridge in a mix of scrub (not too bad) and some dirt/rock. The ridge has two areas of flattish scrub. The summit of Threemile Knoll is a scrub hump with a repeater station on top. The open summit offers nice views of Soda Springs as well as a few large phosphate mining operations nearby.
