Peak 5812 is located on a ridgeline that separates Silverlead Creek from Little Silverlead Creek in the Beaverhead Mountains. It is most easily reached (on public land) from FST-130/The Lewis and Clark National Recreation Trail and its northeast ridge. This area is a mix of private and public land, so be careful. The Climb

From the trailhead, hike east up FST-130/Lewis and Clark Trail up to a ridge crossing at a minor saddle. Continue on FST-130 as it descends south for 300 vertical feet to cross Little Silverlead Creek in a marshy meadow. There is a signed trail junction here for FST-135/Little Silverlead Creek Trail. Head southwest down the meadow for a short distance and cross a small, marshy stream to find the continuation of FST-130 as it heads diagonally right/south up through a pine forest to reach the 5,220-foot connecting saddle between Peak 5812 and Peak 5954.

From this saddle, leave the trail and bushwhack southwest across a field of somewhat thick grass and sagebrush to reach the pine forest and the northeast ridge of Peak 5812. Scramble southwest up the rounded, forested ridge crest. The terrain is matted field grass, gapped pine trees, and deadfall. The summit is on a narrow ridgeline. There was no summit cairn so I built one. Return to the 5,220-foot connecting saddle with Peak 5954. This concludes the first leg of today’s 2-peak adventure. Peak 5954 is up next.
