The Climb

From the parking area on the west side of Henrys Cutoff Pass, cross Henrys Cutoff Road and scramble east-southeast up a steep slope of gapped sagebrush and brush to reach the west ridge. Be sure to avoid sections of aspens (to the right) and willows to make this an easy climb. Higher up, stay to the right of a section of thick pines. Once on the west ridge, cruise to the summit on easy, short grass. The summit is a narrow ridge crest and has a large cairn at the high point. The views from the top are splendid.

The Descent

From the summit, descend southeast briefly on the ridge crest then south to a thick, forested saddle on easy, short field grass. Climb up over a bare hump and then descend to a second saddle, which is the low point between Peak 8142 and Henry Peak. The second saddle is forested and is a combination of pines, aspens, and brush. This concludes the first leg of today’s two-peak journey. Henry Peak is up next.
