Climbing and access information for this formation is on Page 184 of the book. Kaden Platt added the route information and photos. Updated June 2026

The Red Bluff formation is located on the north ridge of Mount Sevy. It is an impressive tower that is seldom visited. Lately, some climbers have ignored the fact that the first ascenders, the Iowa Mountaineers, named it Red Bluff and now refer to this formation as the Birthday Cake. USGS Mount Cramer

There seems to be two optional easy “pitches” to reach the summit. Both are short and sweet. You can either climb up the unprotected chimney on the North face, or the hand crack on the East. Since I was solo, I opted for climbing up the chimney, and down climbing the hand crack. No more than a 30m rope required for this, and single #1-#3, optional #4 for top of hand crack. May be able to get a #5-#6 deep in the chimney.
