This peak is not in the book. Also see the Owyhee Mountains Peaks List for all of the peaks in this range.
Peak 6497 sits east of Toy Pass between Peak 6302 and Toy Mountain on the main Owyhee Mountains Crest. Climb the peak from Toy Pass. The directions in the book [(A)(3)] will get you to Toy Pass, but I recommend using Google Maps as a more efficient method of navigation. The Triangle Road is a wide, well-graded (albeit steep) road suitable for passenger cars when it is dry. USGS Toy Pass
A 4WD road heads east from the pass to a junction at the base of the peak, where a steep 4WD road climbs up toward the summit along a fence row. The road is passable to high-clearance vehicles to this point when dry but the road above this point is steep, rutted and more suitable for hiking. There is a broad spot to park at the base of the steep road. It is roughly 2.5 miles from Toy Pass to the summit.
The crux of this climb is penetrating the dense brush that separates the road from the summit. Keep your eyes open for an opening in the brush just before reaching the road’s high point. I did not find this opening on the way in but on the way out. If you miss this opening you will find, as I did, then the brush is almost impossible to cross. Class 1+. The “+” is for the brush.
