Alex’s first Idaho summit was Mount Borah in a thunderstorm in 1987. He was so enamored with the experience that he moved to Idaho the following year and has been bagging peaks ever since. Formerly a long distance runner, Alex prefers long day hikes to backpacking and circuitous routes to technical climbs. He is the 5th climber to ascend all of Idaho’s peaks exceeding 11,000 feet. Alex’s dogs often accompany him on his hikes including his dog Griz on an ascent of Standhope Peak and The Fin in 1993.
