Alex’s first Idaho summit was Mount Borah in a thunderstorm in 1987. He was so enamored of the experience that he moved to Idaho the following year and has been bagging peaks ever since. Formerly a long distance runner, Alex prefers very long day hikes to backpacking and circuitous routes to technical climbs. He is the fifth climber to ascend all of Idaho’s peaks exceeding 11,000 feet. Alex’s dogs often accompany him on his hikes, including his dog Griz on an ascent of Standhope and the Fin in 1993.
